“Legacy”

Published by Evening Street Review, available in print or online

I should be able to find words to describe my happiness (you know, being a writer), but . . . words fail me. My short story, “Legacy” is out in Evening Street Review. If you're so inclined, you can order a print copy or read it online at https://eveningstreetpress.com/product/evening-street-review-number-39-autumn-2023/

If you're reading online, scroll to the bottom of the list of contributors, and either click on one of the reading platforms or click on the image at the bottom and scroll through to page 124.

Back to finding words to describe my emotions . . . To quote Homer Simpson: Woohoo! Or Ned Flanders: “Get out the Crayolas and color me ‘Tickled Pink.’” Or Marge Simpson: “Hello Room Service? I’d like a banana split sundae with whipped cream, a chocolate chip cheesecake, and a bottle of tequila.” Or [a bastardized version of] Lisa Simpson's words: “Well, I’m going to be a famous author. I’ve got it all figured out. I’ll be unappreciated in my own country. But my gutsy style will electrify the French. I’ll avoid the horrors of drug abuse, but I do plan to have several torrid love affairs. I may or may not die young. I haven’t decided.”

I’ve been a lawyer, board president, preschool teacher and middle school teacher, friend, spouse, mother, and now grandmother, but one thing has never changed: from the time I could hold a pencil, I’ve been a writer of stories, a spinner of tales - often involving dragons (literal or metaphorical). I believe we are here to care for each other and this earth. Most of all, I believe in kindness and laughter. (And music and good books, and time spent with children and dogs. And chocolate.)
